At a recent all-school assembly, brought to us by Soren Bennick Productions, our students spent dedicated time learning about bullying and the #PowerOfOne.  The message of anti-bullying was expressed in a performance of skits and discussions covering:

* The definition of bullying

* The “roles” in bullying:  the bully, the target, the bystander, the one who intervenes

* The negative effects of bullying

* What children can do to stop bullying, if they see it
– walk the target away from the scene
– intervene with the bully
– report the bullying to a teacher/adult

In addition to this assembly, Eastside Christian is blessed to have both a teacher and a parent from our community who are trained leaders of the RAD Kids program (http://www.radkids.org/).  This program gives us additional anti-bullying training for our 2nd and 5th grade students throughout the year.

The Bible has many things to say about what can we do to prevent bullying.  Although not always easy to follow, we know with God’s help we can live out these words of wisdom:

Luke 6:27-28 “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.”

Leviticus 19:18 “You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.”

As a school community, we strive to live out these verses with our peers, our leaders, our families, and everyone.  We know with God we can, for with Him all things are possible.  His power of love within us gives us all we need to stop bullying before it begins.

The #PowerofTwo (God + Me) is the ultimate love we seek to exemplify every day!
